I know there are some great books on Napoleon's Marshals--Chandler, Delderfield. I wonder, are there any comparable books on Old Boney's opponents?

There are none known to me. It is a good topic for Greenhill.

You could start with the push-overs and the nearly great Austrians.

Then the feisty Russians, who gave Nappy his first bloody nose.

The Prussians, who learned their lesson and came back with a vengeance.

The Brits, who finally socked him in the eye.

Also you would need to speak of the Spanish, who shook the foundations of the Empire, destabilizing the Continent, draining blood and treasure.

Kevin,

Thank you for the reply. I did hear about a book by Uffindell about great generals of the time, but haven't seen a copy. For now I'm sticking with bios of Murat, brother Joseph, and Queen Louise of Prussia--a mixed bag of friend and foe if ever I saw one.

OSG, by the way, has turned me on to Napoleonics probably even more than the man himself.

Happy 2006 to all at OSG Forums!
