Changes at the Magazine: We no longer offer subscriptions, mainly because we do not have a subscription manager. In addition, the magazine appears so infrequently that it makes more sense to offer pre-order on each new individual issue.

In order to make up for the lack of new material, we are going to reprint all the old issues in a single book.

The Compendium will be a 144-page perfect-bound paperback covering all the articles in the magazine since Vol II, Nr. 3. There will be 100 pages of reprinted material up through Vol. II, Nr. 7. In addition, there will be new material from the WDM staff as well as articles from hobby luminaries. Not sure on the price but will announce a pre-order for this soon.

P.S. If you have a current subscription we will provide all the magazines you have coming through expiration.

I tend to be an inveterate collector, however, IF I'm going to collect something I want to get the entire collection. That being said, and the CD you're offering going back only to Vol. 2 No. 3, I wouldn't be interested. I simply wouldn't want Part of something.

BUT, if you offered the ENTIRE collection from Vol. 1 No. 1 to the present, well, THAT's a horse of a different color. THAT I'd pay for .... if it wasn't so expensive as to be prohibitive.

Any chance of the entire collection being offered?

Hi Tom,

Sure, some people are funny that way. We made a decision based on the quality of the first two issues of WDM Volume 2. They just were not up to snuff, at that point the magazine was not fully realized. You aren't missing a thing.

Aye, I'm funny that way, I confess :)

What about Volume 1? You say that issues 1 and 2 of Volume 2 were not up to par, but what about the entire first Volume? Surely there are things of value in all of it. Sometimes the quality of the prose is bad, and that surely occurs with most author's first efforts, and why I read and edit most of the stuff in Old Soldiers, even from veteran authors. However, the concepts they're trying to communicate are usually good, just not well expressed. But, if bad writing offended me, then I'm afraid I'd never read the local newspaper. True enough there's the understandable desire not to publish bad material, but sometimes the material isn't necessarily bad, just the prose is bad. That's your decision to make, of course, but for me, well, I'd be more than happy to see the articles. IF the problem is one of bad writing, forward them to me, and I'll do the editing and bring them up to par. I'm really pretty good at that. Honest!

Take Care,
Tom

Tom,

I will send you the material, and you can evaluate it for yourself. It is true that we could add in the old Volume I material.

More thoughts about adding more stuff...

Rather than just reprinting the material in order, I want to have sections to the book and group articles from disparate issues by theme.

Taking Issue Nr. 6 as an example, it had a perfect balance of material in every Themetic category.

Napoleonic Operations (Napoleon in Vilna)
Tactical Tips (The Road to Victory in La Guerre)
Company News (P-250 Updates, Feedback)
Nuts 'n Bolts (Evaluation of CRT Results)
Replays (BiI)
Napoleonic Tours (Spain)
Editorials (Modus Operandi)

I hope to commission a lead in article of a good length to introduce each of the above sections.

Look forward to seeing it. My pen is yours for the asking.

Tom, Do you have pagemaker?

Howdy Kevin,

No, I don't. I have the simple stuff, MS Word. I can mostly read Adobe, but cannot alter a pdf. Meaning I can usually read them ... usually, but not always. For myself, I always found simpler is better, and I've stuck to MS products as a result.

Take Care,
Tom

Tom,

Please check out www.magweb.com All the back issues of WDM are there (except for Vol. II, Nr. 6 and 8).

I would recommend anybody serious about their hobby to go and get a subscription to magweb.
