Kevin-
Overall, I like this newer cover art over the previous example.
Believe I like the painting/drawing on the original better but I
don't much care for the large amount of yellow.

Kevin,
The yellow on the original took me aback at first, but I like it. And I agree with Peter about the image on the original box being more appealing. Maybe toning down the yellow a bit on the original is the answer?

Good, let's hear some more voices.
Is toning down the yellow or somehow modifying the background on the original box (on the homepage) the solution?

I, too, prefer the original cover. I wasn't dismayed by the yellow, but if it could be toned down a bit, why not.

I like the new cover much better than the old one. It never hurts to use a good painting of Boney so prominently.
Also, for what it's worth, I think the new cover will be a bit more attractive on the shelf of a game store.

Jeffrey, the picture on the box is not by Boney but by Ernest Crofts. But as it seems we're going to use the "old" picture of Napoleon and the blacksmith anyway:
a) We could get the Crofts picture only in bad resolution. It will look fine on your monitor but very blured on the gamebox.
b) It shows Napoleon during the 1815 campaign.
c) Most important: There's a copyright on this picture.
The other picture, "Napoleon on the Road", is painted by Louis Gardette, a French artist specialized expecially on postcard motivs - also some about the French-Prussian War. The picture we got is from a Russian postcard as sent during WW1. And it seems indeed to show Napoleon during the 1813 campaign ;)

Thanks for the details about the paintings. I'm surprised to learn that there are pictures of Napoleon that are still protected by copyright. I guess I've seen so many of these in so many places (Books, games, calendars, etc.) that I figured all of this stuff passed in to the public domain long ago. I learn something new every day.
I still like the overall look and design of the new box cover more than the old (I didn't care for the yellow box....but this is just a matter of taste). The combination of the new design with the painting by Gardette should give us a very handsome package for the game.

Jeffrey,
The Crofts painting was painted about 90 or 100 years ago. It is not clear how it might still be under copyright, but that is the claim.

The first is about the same color as Four Lost Battles, I think. I like the yellow/tan one.

Steve,
You are right about the green one. It is close to Four Lost Battles.
All-
Please post your preference if you strongly prefer one or the other.

Since you like it, I will ask Knut to proceed with the lighter one.

Kevin,
Sounds like the decision has been made, but just to chime in - the toned-down yellow looks very nice. Onwards!

Just got the 1st proof of the box cover and will build the dummy this evening. Looks really cool
I will post a photo here.
I'm glad about the final decision because IMHO the other versions look far too heavy. The "cream cover" looks more elegant and has got a nice contrast with the red-brown elements of the titles. I'm sure you'll like it.
Please keep always in mind that what you see on your monitor is not exactly what it will look in the printed version. Expeciall yellow is a very problematic color for this case since yellow can become a very dominant color and very much depends also on the individual monitor adjustments. I can asure you that the final product is not that yellowish as on your monitors ;) It's more "cream-color" - like a cofee with very much milk: Napoléon au latte

Knut,
Thanks. Looking forward to it. Remember that you have a server size limit of I think 39K for the jpeg.
