We played the first Battle scenario of Httk.
French won the game.
We believe the Russians have few opportunities to win this scenario.

Reasons :

1) If French don't move much, they won't have any losses ( not by attrition ,neither by combat) and as they have no losses, they will win the game.

2) Russians don't have enough strength to threaten the French ( or the LOC to supply sources) or to force them to move and/or fight.

Has any one else an opinion about the first battle scenario?

I have a question for you: Why do you play? There are many other worthwhile things to do. You could read a book, or enjoy the outdoors, play sports.

You could just say, the French will win, let's not bother ourselves with setting up the game, just decide who will play the French, award him the victory, and then go and do something else.

I don't understand your reaction.
I like to play this game.
And if I play the game,I like to win the game.
So, I just want to know if the Russians have any chance to win the first battle scenario, if the French don't move much and play rather in a defensive way. This was what happened in our game.

My advice: If you want to get the most out of the game, put yourself in the position of Napoleon, and try to do your best, not just manage to eke out a technical win by one VP.

We are going to replay the first battle scenario and we are more thinking about changing the VP in a way that the French don't have an advantage at the start by doing nothing.
There are 3 possible solutions :

- We give the French a handicap at the start of -1 VP.
- We change the VP for the losses in a way that the French don't start with the advantage of 1/1 = + 1VP. ( 1/1 could be 0 VP).
- Russians have 1 VP for having Vilnius under control.

What do you think about these solutions?

Another question:
Line of communication in rulebook for Battle scenarios = 18 MP.
But :
Errata say to use Exclusive rules 102 and 107.
Rule 102 uses the dispatch system and the depot-system which are not explained in Battle scenario rules.
Do the errata mean that we have to use the complete system of the Campaign rule system WITH the Center of operations and the complete dispatch system and the Line of Communications of 18 hexes ( and not 18 MP)?

- We give the French a handicap at the start of -1 VP.

Sure, that will be adequate. Just remember Napoleon was going for the big win, he didn't plan on going to Moscow. He wanted to win the campaign, strategically, n a couple of weeks.

Winning by 1 VP sitting on the starting line doesn't do this.

The Errata should not be interpreted to mean you use the Center of Operations in the Battle Scenarios.
