After several years some of our ASL group discovered that we have old favourites like Napoleon at Bay and Struggle of Nations in our cupboards. So the maps of Stalingrad have made way for the eastern approaches of Paris on the gaming table.

While scouring the web for updated rules, we both have the AH version, I came across your site and discovered that there is a 3rd edition and deluxe edition NaB.

What are the differences between the 2nd and 3rd/deluxe editions?

1. Graphically, our game is a big improvement.
2. There are 100 changes in the text of the rules. Download the "Consolidated rules" from this site by goiing to the Games pages, then Sun of Austerlitz.

We think the 3rd edition is a big improvement. Stocks are running low.

Thanks Kevin,

I'll check it out. Good to see there are so many games with the same rules now.

Nice to have such a small rule book too (after decades of ASL).

Kevin,

Which games use the NAB rules?

NaB, BII, 1806 and SoA?

Seven days in 1809 is a different game system I take it? (ie not the same as the Victory games 1809 game)

The games arrived yesterday. They look great, nice and colourful and bigger fonts on the counters as well as initiative etc and the rules very clean too.

As it turned my opponent also has the 3rd ed. So we set it up last monday after we finished the first scenario of the 2nd ed the week before.

On first reading of the rules it seems the balance switches to the allies with Napoleon losing a star and the revised movement on initiative rules. But then we are both newbies at NAB tactics...

You may be right about the bonus stars for Napoleon. He did win most of the battles he undertook in 1814, the exceptions being Montereau, Laon (when he was simply too far outnumbered, toward the end), and Brienne and La Rothiere (at the beginning of the campaign).

I am far from an expert. Our initial 2nd playing had it pretty easy for the French but we were just getting a feel for the game.

I am not sure how many battles he had in that period but 4 losses is not insignificant.

I am looking forward to next week when we kick off our 3rd ed campaign!
