LETTERS
From: Karm Kerwell

I received SuA a few months back. I spent some time counter pushing and
learning the system (so far so good) but alas, I was soon back at Four Lost
Battles! 4LB has dominated my table this year and I don't see it getting
going away any time soon. It is a great game. It's so simple but it's
deep. What is it? It can't be the cards, can it? It's more than that. I
like the chaos and unpredictability of the cards. I like the situations.
They're maddening. I don't know what I like better, 4LB or 7Days. Or
6Days....

Take care and keep up the great work. I've been lurking on CSW but it tires
me so I've left it for now.

I REALLY like the set-up display for 4LB in #9. It's easy to use and clear.
I hope to see that in future OSG games. I'd pay the extra dollar if it
helps.

Sincerely,
Karm

FOUR LOST BATTLES

Further Thoughts on Katzbach Scenario 22.23
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our work published in the Special Study showed that the 8th division was already near the battlefield on the night of August 25th, and that it possibly never left on the march for Haynau like the other divisions in III Corps. Souham, commander of the 8th, had just been promoted to Command of III Corps and probably knew that his division would be crossing the Katzbach soon. Any doubt is dispelled by reports of Prussian scouts that the division occupied Rothkirch that night. By allowing the 8th division reinforcement status it gets an automatic move on the first turn (Souham knew the plan for the coming battle). This was probably the wrong division to be leading the offensive.
Read more about the crossing of Souham's Div. at Dohmau on p. 52 of Special Study Nr. 1.

Change in set-up for Souham's 8th Division:
8th Division (Brayer, Charriere, and 2nd-9th arty.) enters at Rothkirch (0902) at 10.00.

SWORDS AROUND A THRONE
Map Development
Joe Youst is working on the map for Swords. We have re-designed the game recently. Though this is a two-player game we are incorporating the non-player country diplomacy rules from La Guerre. We want a detailed historical o.b. (instead of generic divisions). We are going to accomplish that by treating one year at a time, starting with 1812.

This is a big game and encompasses the whole of the Napolenic Wars. A game like this will be a once-in a lifetime event. It is going to take time. We want a game that is at the cusp between Operational and Strategic levels. Want you to see valid point of both the opertional and strategic levels. This game could never have been done before completing an individual, operational level game on each of the campaigns. All that info is going to be compressed into a single game.

"Wow. It seems to me that you're undercharging for a game of that depth and scope. I'm only speaking for myself, but I'd bet you would find a lot of gamers who are truly interested in Napoleonics would pay a lot more than the current P-350 and/or retail price for this one." -EAP
