Road march question

Road March restriction-8.22

E: may not enter a hex connected by road to an adjacent friendly unit which is in road march.

am I interpreting this correctly ? two friendly units in road march can not be next to each other, if their hexes are connected by a road ?
youd have to space units every other hex, for instance, to have a division cruise down a road ?

That is the way my opponent and I play it...thecolumns become quite long and impressive :D

It also has quite the impact on the amount of time it takes to deploy for march. I usually find myself in a proper Napoleonic mode of thought trying to find enough parallel roads to march my columns on.
