Wargame Design Magazine

THE FORUM OF NAPOLEONIC SIMULATION

The way to study the past is not to confine oneself to mere knowledge of history but, through application of this knowledge, to give actuality to the past. —Richard Wilhelm

Wargame Design is a forum for the development of new ideas — to further our journey toward new horizons for our hobby.
We invite you to join in the serious play that is the mission of Operational Studies Group.

Issue Nr. 10, devoted to the 1813 Campaign in Germany. 24 pages.

Includes two major strategy articles, for Napoleon at the Crossroads and Sun of Austerlitz. Both are excellent. Mark Owens, in the first, argues for an attack on Berlin even at the cost of losing Dresden. Martin Fuica makes
the case against any Force Marches, advises the Coalition Player not to abandon Brünn, but more to avoid the attrition in this game which is fierce.

WDM Nr. 10 also includes:
4LB Katzbach PM Scenario, 4LB Questions, 4LB Retreat Before Combat optional rule, NaC Update, NaC Counter Design, What is Scale-appropriate? Napoleon At Bay Solitaire by Mark Herman and Editorial.

A few copies remain in stock.

Wargame Design Companion (pre-order it now)  144 pages of articles on game design technique and Napoleonic history relating to OSG games.

More than a mere reprinting of material from the magazine, the Companion (144 pages) is divided into sections with updated and revised articles (where appropriate) grouped by theme. A lead-in essay by a different prominent designer or historian will introduce these sections. In addition there will be a history of OSG, including controversies, greatest achievements, and a biographical section listing those who worked with OSG, plus the Compendium of OSG Games (see below).

The theme sections (showing examples of articles originally published in Issue Nr. 6):

  • Napoleonic Operations (i.e., Napoleon in Vilna)

  • Tactical Tips (i.e., The Road to Victory in La Guerre)

  • Company News (P-350 Updates, Feedback)

  • Nuts 'n Bolts (Evaluation of CRT Results)

  • Replays (BiI)

  • Napoleonic Tours (Spain)

  • Editorials (Modus Operandi)
